Speakers Comments:

Speaker Price welcomed Marilyn Willie back to the Faculty Senate.  The Senate offices were not fully staffed for the month of June but are fully staffed again.

The Faculty Senate retreat is scheduled this year for August 23rd; this is for incoming, outgoing, and current Senators.  Specific schedule and location will be emailed shortly; we hope to return to Christopher’s again.

The new communication equipment is being installed.  By the August meeting, our Qatar Senators and Galveston Senators will be able to attend the meeting from the comfort of their own facilities.  We wish to express our thanks to the Qatar Foundation, which provided half of the necessary funding, and to the Office of the Vice President and Associate Provost for Information Technology, in particular, Dr. Pierce Cantrell, who provided the other half of the funding.  We sincerely appreciate their support of the Faculty Senate.

The Executive Committee of the Faculty Senate voted to suspend temporarily the recertification of the Core Curriculum at the request of the Core Curriculum Council.  We are awaiting a proposed revised process from the Core Curriculum Council. We recognize this is an inconvenience to the colleges, but we hope to have this resolved as soon as possible.
