August 2, 2023
Dear Senators,
In 2020, a committee was formed by the then-Dean of Faculties at the request of the Provost to establish a Faculty Code of Conduct. The committee consisted, in part, of current and past faculty senators, including Julie Harlin, Jorge Alvarado, Rajesh Miranda, and Dale Rice, and was chaired by former Senate Secretary Claire Katz. One of the goals of the committee was to ensure fair due process procedures that involved peers. COVID derailed the process of that panel at the time, and the committee reconvened in the Fall of 2022 and Spring of 2023 under the Office of the Vice President of Faculty Affairs. I have attached the most recent version of the draft as prepared by the faculty on the committee. These documents are entitled “TAMU Faculty Code of Conduct A” and “Faculty Conduct Guideline A.”
The current draft does not take into account recent events and will need to be revisited by the committee. That said, I think it will be fitting for members of the Senate to provide advice throughout the process, on both this current document as well as the updated version.
The link below contains a Qualtrics form where faculty members can provide feedback on the code of conduct
documents. This link is also available on the Faculty Senate website. Information provided will be collated weekly and provided to the committee to inform their process.
