FACULTY SENATE RESOLUTION DIVERSITY, EQUITY, AND INCLUSION
Whereas Texas A&M University this year became a Hispanic Serving Institution, and
Whereas the university’s efforts to enhance diversity, equity and inclusion were a critical component of reaching that milestone, and
Whereas the university still has significant work ahead to help other underrepresented groups make progress to more adequately reflect Texas of the 21st century, and
Whereas the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, as part of “Building a Talent Strong Texas,” has noted that, “In raw numbers, Texas grew more than any other state over the past decade, and it is one of the youngest and most diverse states in the nation. More than 95% of our growth over the past decade was in communities of color. If we’re not advancing our goals equitably, we cannot meet those goals.” (The bold emphasis is that of the Coordinating Board.)
Now therefore be it resolved, the Faculty Senate of Texas A&M University reconfirms its commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion efforts, and
Be it further resolved that the Executive Committee supports the goals of programs such as ACES and ACES Plus that aim to diversify the ranks of faculty to better represent our state and our student body.
