Dear Senators,
On July 31, 2023, the Faculty Senate Executive Committee announced the creation of an investigative committee with the charge of “an investigation that examines the circumstances surrounding the failed hiring of McElroy and the suspension of Alonzo, with the goal of understanding the events that occurred and to make recommendations of changes in SAPS, rules and processes to ensure that similar events do not happen again.”
The investigative subcommittee consists of:
Mark Burge, Professor of Law, Texas A&M School of Law
Matthew Taylor, Professor, Texas A&M College of Agriculture & Life Sciences
Grace Townsend, Instructional Associate Professor, Texas A&M University - Galveston
Following the investigation, the Faculty Senate Executive Committee will produce a report that will include the following:
A factually supported explanation of the events that occurred.
Process-oriented recommendations to avoid similar actual or apparent challenges to academic freedom going forward.
The Faculty Senate Executive Committee encourages faculty members to provide input they would like the investigative committee to consider through this Qualtrics form. Feedback may be provided anonymously. Please remember to include your name and contact information if you would like to be contacted. Input provided may include, but is not limited to, information pertaining to either investigation, suggestions to the committee, and/or committee requests. Information provided will be collated weekly and provided to the committee by Jeannine Scambray, Executive Assistant II to the Faculty Senate, to inform their process.
The creation of this investigative committee does not preclude additional actions from taking place on behalf of the Faculty Senate Executive Committee.
Sincerely,
Tracy Hammond
Speaker of the Faculty Senate
