Committee of the Whole
Senator Hill (College of Liberal Arts) raised a concern about the Riverside campus and wondered if the Provost could comment. Specifically, he indicated that the Riverside campus appears to be two halves that do not go together. He asked, what are the implications for the educational mission for this campus? Provost Watson responded that the coverage of the story has varied depending on who the audience for the story is. She indicated that the money that is being spent was being spent by engineering or other entities that could use these facilities (land is cheap). Even though we are telling students here we have no room, there are parts of the system need more students. She assured the senate that nothing about this project can hurt us. The primary question has been who is interested in being part of the conversation.Senator Mark Sicilio (TAMHSC College of Medicine) asked if there any conversation about metal detectors at Kyle Field? Provost Watson responded that metal detectors not very effective. Additionally, Kyle Field is not a secure facility day in/day out, e.g., PE classes take place there. And she noted that not all weapons are made of metal. Speaker elect Price responded that Athletics has declare a new bag policy for the stadium.
Senator Magill (College of Agriculture & Life Sciences)—raised a question about Insurance physicals. Senator Daugherty provided an update on the SEBAC meeting and indicated that for the physical exam be sure to have that procedure listed first in the procedure codes.
Senator Magill (College of Agriculture & Life Sciences)—raised the problem with the move from Howdy regarding class email lists. Students are not receiving the emails. Speaker-elect Price suggested that the EC can look into this problem. Provost Watson recommended that faculty be sure to report to the appropriate people. She reminded us that CIS is different from EIS and each group reports to different people. [We] might be going up the wrong chain and this will make resolving the problem more prolonged.
